Digital Learning

At Clytha we use a range of exciting resources to enhance learning and digital competence including DASH robots, Micro:bits, Chromebooks, iPads, Micro:bit buggies, Sphero’s, Lego EV3 and Lego Wedo 2.0 robots and animation programs. All are used highly effectively in teaching and learning opportunities at Clytha. We are also successfully involved in the ‘First Lego League’ in Years 5 and 6, and in the ‘Junior Lego League’ in years 2-4.

We also use the Welsh Government’s HWB platform as our ‘one stop shop’ for online resources that our children use in class and at home.

Hwb provides all maintained schools in Wales with access to a wide range of centrally-funded, bilingual digital tools and resources to support the digital transformation of classroom practices. The Hwb platform is managed and operated by the Welsh Government.

All pupils in maintained schools in Wales are provided with a secure log-in to the Hwb platform. At Clytha Primary School, children use Hwb as they progress through the school. It is used regularly to support their learning. For more information about the Hwb platform and how information about your child is used, please see https://hwb.gov.wales/privacy.

All children in Year 2 to Year 6 will access online reading and numeracy tests via the Hwb platform. These are known as ‘personalised assessments’. For more information about the online personalised assessments, please see http://learning.gov.wales/resources/collections/national-reading-and-numeracy-tests?lang=en#collection-2

During enrolment to the school, we will ask for parent/carer consent for children to access the Hwb platform. This can be accessed at home as well as in school. Hwb offers a range of online learning environments such as Hwb Classes, Microsoft Office 365, Google for Education, Minecraft Edu and other relevant educational tools and resources. Welsh Government provides these additional services available to help your child access educational resources. These additional services are centrally funded and there is no cost for you or for your school to access and use them.

For children to have access to the Google for Education aspect of Hwb, we must obtain parental consent. If you have not already provided this, please ask the school office for further information.
